Ray Barron, New England School of Art & Design, (portrait of him on this link) sponsored a full scholarship to study painting in Athens, Greece for a summer when I was 19 yrs. old. This trip changed my life & I will be forever grateful to this kindly, generous man who not only sponsored me but other students as well.
This link contains a few oil paintings that were "professionally" photographed. During a bitterly cold winter I carried these paintings, even the enormous ones, from school...perspiring despite the frigid air...onto the subway (since they were large & clumsy they caused irritation amongst the already annoyed passengers)...then to a photographer's studio across town. And there were many trips. He charged $45 a painting, an enormous sum at that time. The quality was not good but I accepted them since I could not bear dragging them back to his studio.

First self-portraitI used newsprint thinking since this was my first self portrait (evidenced by the endless neck), I didn't want to waste quality paper. I kept the drawing which became fragile over time. Now mounted on poster board. In artist's collection | Second self-portraitCompleted in the same class. In artist's collection |
